The rest of the chapter focused on Yamato trying to stop Kazenbo but, more importantly, the chapter dove into its biggest part, which was the battle between Big Mom and a team-up of Law and Kid. Despite having seemingly defeated them already, Big Mom was, once again, taken aback when the two struck yet another powerful blow against her. Law, using his awakening, tapped into the power of Shock Wille once again, while Kid used another one of his mechanical attacks to knock the Yonko back. It is highly likely that One Piece chapter 1039 will see this clash continue.

The Wano Country arc is quite close to its end now and with just a few fights remaining, Oda’s focus in One Piece chapter 1039 will be on wrapping them up and then focusing on Luffy vs Kaido. Yamato’s clash against Kazenbo is needed to raise the tension even while Luffy and Kaido fight, so it is possible that fans won’t see this one get resolved until Luffy vs Kaido actually begins. At the same time, the threat of CP0 needs to be ever-present until the very end as it is quite clear to see that they’re being set up as the main source of tension after the Beasts Pirates and Kaido fall. With that said, all focus will likely be on Big Mom vs Kid and Law.

As seen previously with the likes of Jinbe vs Who’s Who and Robin vs Black Maria, Oda tends to end the fight in the chapter after the one which is named after it. The previous chapter, being named Kid and Law vs Big Mom, saw the majority of the fight take place, however, it’ll likely conclude in One Piece chapter 1039. It is quite likely that Big Mom will brush off both Kid and Law’s attacks and get up once again, however, she admitted to being on her last legs in the previous chapter. The Worst Generation duo, at the same time, is on their last legs as well, meaning one attack that sees both of them go all-out should be enough to defeat Big Mom.

The Yonko is expected to fall in the next chapter and the rest of it is likely the aftermath of the battle in which Kid and Law collapse along with her. Fans could see the rest of One Piece 1039 focus on Zoro and his encounter with the Shinigami, which could just turn out to be Brook. Meanwhile, Sanji should be close to getting up once again and helping save people around him from the fires. While it isn’t expected for Izo to defeat CP0, fans could see a glimpse of his fight as well.

If Big Mom actually does fall in One Piece 1039, then it’ll truly mark the end of an era as, just like Whitebeard, she’s a relic of the past. Kaido, too, belongs in that category, having shared the same ship as them and he’ll eventually fall to Luffy as well. Big Mom’s fall doesn’t solve all the other problems on Onigashima, however. Yamato could well struggle to put out the fires of Kazenbo as it doesn’t have a physical form.

At the same time, the CP0’s threat continues to loom over Robin and everyone else on Onigashima. Given that they’re all injured or exhausted, things don’t look to be going their way at the moment. One ray of hope that fans have is Marco, but it is unknown where he is currently. After dropping Izo off to where Usopp was, Marco hasn’t appeared in the story since. He could well end up assisting Izo in the fight against CP0, or he could help Yamato put out the fires of Kazenbo. The phoenix flames do have superiority over regular flames after all.

Raizo vs Fukurokuju could end anytime now but more attention should be paid to Hiyori, who is currently planning to end Orochi all by herself, or perhaps with Denjiro at her side. Either way, the end of the Onigashima war is nigh. As Big Mom’s fight wraps up, all focus should turn to Luffy vs Kaido immediately after, and with the conclusion of that fight, fans can finally start looking at the end of Wano, which will be filled with some of the most incredible reveals about the Poneglyphs, perhaps even the One Piece and Joy Boy, and most importantly, the events that are taking place in the outside world.

Since One Piece was on break before chapter 1038, there will not be another one for at least two more weeks. As such, fans can enjoy the next chapter soon, and it is expected to release in the upcoming Jump Issue on Sunday. According to the MangaPlus app, One Piece 1039 will release on February 6, 2022.
